Parts of Braces
Bands: The bands are metallic rings that snugly fit around either molars or premolars, sealed into place with dental cement, and hold the orthodontic appliance in place.
Brackets: Brackets are bonded or banded to the tooth and hold the archwire in place.
Archwire: Archwires are wires that run along the tooth arch (which is why they're called archwires) and held in place by the brackets. They guide the teeth into the desired position.
Elastics: Elastics are tiny rings of rubber that hold the archwire into the bracket.
Hooks: Hooks can be attached to the brackets to hold elastics in place.
Coil Spring: The coil spring goes over the archwire between brackets.
